6-Day / 5-Night Bike Tours

Eastern Townships of Quebec - NEW!

This new tour takes us through the beautiful region where the northern boundary of Vermont merges into the French speaking Eastern Townships of Quebec. You are treated to gorgeous vistas, pretty villages, spectacular biking and excellent inns. We begin (and end) at the Montgomery House Inn in Montgomery, Vermont. This 1803 brick inn has been a favorite for years: the food is superb, the guest rooms wonderfully comfortable, and the innkeepers, Deb and Bob Winders are the very best.

Montgomery is famous for its many covered bridges, and our Monday ride takes us past two of the finest. By noon we have cleared U.S. Customs and are in Canada (bring your passport!) enjoying lunch at the Les Sucreries de L'Erable in the charming village of Frelighsburg. From here we ride to Pigeon Hill and then north to Stanbridge where we start to follow Quebec's "wine route" . We will include a visit to one or two of the wineries on the ride to Dunham (such as famous Vignoble de l'Orpailleur or Domaine des Cote d'Ardoise) and also can enjoy a tasting of cider wines and apple products of the renown Cidrerie Fleurs de Pommiers. And since our inn is only a short van shuttle away, you can feel comfortable accepting the inevitable offers to sample the many excellent wines and hard ciders. Monday night we are the guests at the beautiful Aux Douces Heures in Dunham. This newer B&B treats us to exquisite rooms and excellent meals and has the benefit of being with in easy walk of several shops and wine stores in the center of town.

Tuesday takes us past more wineries and north through Farnham and Brigham. We will plan to have lunch in the little town of Bromont, famous as the home to the equestrian events in the 1976 Olympics. We then pick up part of Quebec's famous Route Vert, a series of interconnected bike paths that have made this area a mecca for cyclists. The path takes us along the shore of Lac Boivin and right to our next inn, the St-Christophe Hotel. The lovely rooms, great views over the lake, friendly staff and superb food offered here makes this larger property a pleasure to visit.

Wednesday we ride the Route Vert around the Reservoir Choiniere then through the village of Waterloo. Following the easterly edge of beautiful Lac Brome we take time to visit the resort town of Knowlton whose main thoroughfare is lined with bistros, restaurants, specialty shops and bakeries. There is also an excellent small museum here. We then continue to loop around the shore of the lake to Auberge du Joli Vent. Hans Christiner and Patricia Provencher will welcome you to their award-winning small inn and you will delight in the pleasant rooms and Hans' celebrated cuisine. Please note that on our tours scheduled for July 17-22, July 18-23, and October 3-8 we will be staying at Auberge Quilliams instead of Auberge du Joli Vent.

Thursday we ride through Fulford and can visit the Domaine Les Brome, one of the most celebrated wineries in Canada. Then we ride southerly taking either a leisurely route to Sutton, or the exhilarating roller-coaster route along Chemin Echo. Sutton is a celebrated resort town located in a pretty river valley. It has a vibrant main street with sidewalk cafes, galleries, craft stores, and specialty shops, as well as excellent restaurants. Tonight we stay at the Auberge Le St Amour. Located a mere three minute walk from the center of town, this heritage property is wonderfully comfortable and friendly, and as an added bonus, the breakfasts always get rave reviews!

Friday's ride takes us south through the tiny mountain community of Abercom where we might indulge ourselves at the great little bakery (Boulangerie Croissanterie) before re-entering the United States at Richford. Your last few miles are partially along a pretty bike path and then a winding road, passing covered bridges before arriving back at the Inn at Montgomery.
