![]() ![]() ![]() This tour combines the pleasures of a classic Vermont country inn with the delight of comfortable rural cycling. We follow along the Otter Creek, passing scenic farmlands and lovely lakes and streams, then cross three covered bridges on our ride to and from Proctor, home of the fascinating Vermont Marble Museum. Here we can picnic at an overlook above the original marble quarry, and visit the Vermont Lifestyle Gift shop. From Proctor we can take an easy side trip to visit Wilson Castle, a 115-acre estate whose 32-room “castle” features a huge array of stained glass windows and a unique collection of Farm Eastern and European antiques and museum pieces. Then, for the more energetic, there is an end-of-day optional ride up to spectacular Brandon Gap. Sunday you are treated to a scenic ride along the shores of Lake Dunmore before riding through the village of Brandon, with is immaculate tree-shaded streets and eclectic mix of 19th-century Federal, Greek Revival and Victorian homes. ![]() ![]() ![]() The Churchill House Inn, is an essential part of this weekend experience. Nestled on the western slopes of the Green Mountain National Forest, this wonderfully comfortable inn exudes a relaxed atmosphere that takes you back to a less complicated time. Your innkeepers, Seth and Olya Hopkins, treat you to superb dining, including a breakfast featured in a recent Gourmet magazine and a four-course dinner featuring New England and international fare made from the freshest local ingredients, often including vegetables freshly picked from Olya’s organic garden. |
