6-Day / 5-Night Bike Tours

Woodstock/Northfield

This very popular tour focuses on the small and elegant villages of Woodstock, Randolph, and Quechee and the beautiful farmland of the White River Valley. We stay at three delightful inns and keep the riding gentle, with some excellent options for the more energetic.

Our three inns are exceptional. We spend the first two nights at Edie and Chuck Janisse's October Country Inn. This has always been a favorite inn on our tours and you will quickly understand why. The Three Stallion Inn, our Tuesday and Wednesday evening destination, is part of a magnificent old estate, and the views from the large porch are lovely. Here we experience all the comforts of a country inn, plus such amenities as a sauna, full fitness room, swimming pool, and miles of trails for hiking. We finish our week in South Woodstock at the Kedron Valley Inn. This handsome brick Federal-style inn has been welcoming guests since the mid-1800's. The inn was just acquired by two outstanding innkeepers ( Tom and Cindy List ) and has a wonderful swimming pond, great food, and cozy rooms, and has been honored by travel writers as one of the "top ten inns in America."

Monday's riding takes us on a glorious ride along the Ottauquechee River, passing the Taftsville Covered Bridge on our way into Quechee. Here we can shop and watch the glass blowing at Simon Pearce's renowned glassworks or take a side trip to dramatic Quechee Gorge.

Tuesday we cycle through the rolling hills of Pomfret, past the handsome village of South Royalton (home of Vermont’s only law school), and along the Second Branch of the White River. An optional ride takes us to Brookfield where you can walk across its locally famous floating bridge.

Wednesday we visit the campus of Norwich University and enjoy a long gentle ride along the Third Branch of the White River, along Roxbury Flat, past the Vermont State Fish Hatchery and into Randolph. Alternatively, many opt for a more leisurely day taking advantage of the great hiking trails, pool, golf, and other activities offered at the inn.

Thursday's ride takes us through delightful farm country and includes a lovely picnic on the grassy shores of Silver Lake in Barnard. We then take an exceptionally beautiful ride through Pomfret to Woodstock, often described as one of this country's prettiest villages, and noted for its many tasteful shops, antique stores, and galleries. We also include a tour of the Billings Farm and Museum before you ride into South Woodstock.

Finally, our stay in South Woodstock is followed on Friday by a nice ride along the Ottauquechee River, plus an optional ride along North Brook to Bridgewater Center.
